WHAT ARE THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH OVERRIDING THE LIM?.
Ignoring the issue is not an option – a decision has to be taken to either intervene to repair the problem, to utilise the V-LIFE technology, or to bypass the LIM trip in order to maintain power to the subsea system even when the IR is below the previously determined critical safety level. Bypassing the LIM trip results in a safety risk to personnel that needs to be assessed and mitigated with access and work permits, but importantly it also results in damage to the electrical conductors due to copper loss which could ultimately lead to an unrecoverable system failure.
