Viper Subsea Showcases Its Integrity Management Systems

February 9, 2015

Viper Subsea will showcase a range of products and services at this year’s Subsea Expo in Aberdeen. This year, the focus by Viper Subsea will be on those services and products that improve the efficiencies of the Integrity Management of aging subsea control systems and umbilicals. From a hardware perspective, the second generation V-LIFE technology will be on show together with V-LIM, the first deliverable product under the industry funded V-IR project.

V-LIFE is an award winning technology that reverses the effects of water ingress into subsea electrical cables, connectors and umbilicals. With a rapidly growing installed base and a 100% success rate, the technology has already saved the industry many millions of pounds in costs by extending the service life of failing equipment and avoiding the need for subsea interventions.

The V-IR system is a holistic approach to monitoring the integrity of complete subsea distribution system and pin-pointing degrading components before failure occurs. The project is sponsored by BP, Shell, Total, and Chevron with the full suite of technology being ready for a field trial by Q4 this year. The first product to be commercialised is V-LIM, a surface located umbilical monitoring device, which has a market leading specification resulting in high accuracy continuous monitoring of the integrity of the umbilical. It also acts as a topsides modem for acquiring all the subsea data from the other components in the V-IR network.

“For a number of years we have been developing technology and services that provide the oil field Operators with more cost effective solutions for managing and monitoring their subsea control systems. In the current climate of low oil prices and tight financial margins, the technology is exactly what the industry needs in their drive towards cost efficiencies.” says Neil Douglas, Managing Director of Viper Subsea. “By providing a complete suite of services and innovative products, we are able to make a real difference and offer real solutions to problems and save our clients significant sums of money.”
