Low Insulation Resistance in Your Subsea Systems?
Up to 200× insulation resistance recovery has been achieved in live offshore systems
Achieved using V-LIFE
Overview
V-LIFE is an intervention-free subsea electrical protection technology designed to restore insulation resistance in degraded systems affected by water ingress.
It operates without shutdown or subsea intervention, helping operators stabilise electrical performance and extend the operational life of critical subsea assets.
Insulation resistance decline is a known failure mode in subsea cables and umbilicals
In subsea electrical systems, insulation resistance degradation is typically driven by long-term water ingress and environmental exposure.
You may already be seeing:
- Downward IR trends over time
- Increased leakage current
- Reduced confidence in system integrity margins
At this stage, the technical challenge is usually clear. The uncertainty is whether the system can be stabilised—or whether intervention is inevitable.
Case Study
200× Insulation Resistance Recovery in Live Subsea System
In a Gulf of America deployment, a subsea production control system experienced insulation resistance decline to approximately 460kΩ due to water ingress.
V-LIFE was deployed using topside-installed hardware, allowing activation without any subsea intervention.
Following activation:
- Insulation resistance increased by ~100× within 24 hours
- Improvement exceeded 200× within one week
- Performance stabilised above 100MΩ over the longer term
This enabled continued operation and reduced the immediate need for offshore intervention or system replacement.
