V-LIFE Recovers Failing Umbilical for North Sea Oil Field Operator

The Challenge
The operator’s subsea system, supporting eight wells, relied on a 15km umbilical installed in 1992. By 2013, one of its electrical power channels had deteriorated to an unserviceable level, leaving the system operating on a single channel with no prediction of how long it would last. A replacement umbilical had a two-year lead time, putting production at serious risk. The operator had already prepared specifications for a new umbilical, but downtime and costs made a safer, faster, and smarter solution essential.
