Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation Presented to Viper Innovations for Electrical Integrity Technology V-LIFE

Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mrs Annie Maw, has officially presented Viper Innovations with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation at a ceremony held at the company’s headquarters on Friday 19th August.

The award recognises Viper’s contribution to engineering innovation in subsea electrical integrity technology, specifically its V-LIFE system, which improves the reliability and lifespan of offshore electrical infrastructure.

Queen’s Award recognises innovation in subsea electrical integrity systems

Viper is an engineering company specialising in the development of technologies, consultancy and services for the global subsea energy sector.

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation was awarded for V-LIFE (Electrical Insulation Resistance Improvement System), a patented technology designed to restore and improve electrical insulation performance in subsea cables and equipment.

Since its launch in 2013, V-LIFE has been deployed internationally across offshore energy operations in regions including Africa, Indonesia and Australia, supporting operators in extending the life of offshore assets and improving system reliability.

V-LIFE technology improves offshore asset life and reduces subsea maintenance requirements

V-LIFE is used by offshore operators to address electrical insulation degradation in subsea systems without the need for full cable recovery or replacement.

By improving insulation resistance in-situ, the technology helps:

  • Extend the operational life of subsea electrical infrastructure
  • Reduce offshore maintenance and intervention requirements
  • Improve system reliability in harsh underwater environments
  • Lower lifecycle costs for offshore energy operators

The system has become a key technology in supporting asset integrity management across subsea oil and gas fields.

Recognition at Buckingham Palace and official award presentation

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation was conferred on 21 April 2016, Her Majesty The Queen’s birthday.

As part of the award programme, Managing Director Neil Douglas and Business Development Director Max Nodder attended a Royal Reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday 14 July.

The official presentation at Viper’s Portishead (Bristol) office was conducted by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mrs Annie Maw, who commented:

“It is a great honour and a privilege to be presenting this award on behalf of Her Majesty to Viper Innovations. We in Somerset are especially proud that this innovative work is being undertaken in our county.”

Industry recognition for engineering innovation in subsea technology

V-LIFE has received multiple industry awards in recognition of its engineering innovation and impact on subsea operations, including:

  • Business Leader Awards Innovation of the Year (2015)
  • Subsea UK Business Awards Innovation & Technology Award (2014)
  • Private Business Awards Technology Innovation of the Year (2014)

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation further recognises Viper’s contribution to advancing UK engineering capability and innovation in subsea electrical systems.
