Viper Innovations Wins Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation in Subsea Electrical Integrity Technology
April 21, 2016
Viper Innovations, a UK-based subsea engineering company specialising in consultancy and electrical integrity technologies for the global offshore energy sector, has been awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.
The award recognises Viper’s development of its V-LIFE Electrical Insulation Resistance Improvement System, a technology designed to improve the reliability and lifespan of subsea electrical infrastructure in offshore oil and gas operations.
Queen’s Award recognises innovation in subsea electrical integrity technology
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation is one of the UK’s highest business honours, awarded on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and conferred on 21 April 2016, Her Majesty The Queen’s birthday.
Viper will formally celebrate the award at a Royal Reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday 14 July 2016, attended by Managing Director Neil Douglas and Business Development Director Max Nodder.
V-LIFE improves reliability and extends life of offshore electrical systems
V-LIFE is a subsea electrical integrity technology that improves insulation resistance in subsea cables and equipment without the need for replacement or recovery.
Since its launch in 2013, the system has been deployed internationally across offshore oil and gas fields, including operations in regions such as Indonesia and Australia.
The technology is used by offshore operators to:
- Extend the operational life of subsea electrical infrastructure
- Improve reliability of offshore energy systems
- Reduce maintenance intervention and offshore downtime
- Lower lifecycle costs across oil and gas assets
V-LIFE has become a key tool in supporting asset life extension strategies within subsea energy operations.
Recognition for British engineering innovation in subsea technology
The Queen’s Award reflects the strength of UK engineering innovation in addressing complex challenges in subsea electrical systems.
Viper’s V-LIFE technology has previously received multiple industry awards, including:
- Innovation of the Year – Business Leader Awards (2015)
- Innovation & Technology Award – Subsea UK Business Awards (2014)
- Technology Innovation of the Year – Private Business Awards (2014)
These awards highlight the technology’s impact in improving subsea electrical system performance and reliability across global offshore markets.
Leadership perspective
Neil Douglas, Managing Director of Viper Innovations, said:
“We are honoured to receive this award. V-LIFE represents British innovation at its finest. It has been developed to specifically address a problem that affects many offshore oil and gas fields and its success is testament to its effectiveness. It is the right technology at the right time, but key to its success has been the efforts of the team here at Viper in developing a high quality product based on innovative technology that is being well managed into the marketplace, and supported with superior levels of customer service. The Queen’s Award is one which all staff here at Viper share. I couldn’t be more proud of our collective effort.”
