Charity Initiatives.

May Walking Month Challenge.

In May, we launched an employee ‘National Walking Month’ initiative, where teams of colleagues could work together to get more active and increase their daily step count.

We understand the importance of reducing workplace stress and the benefits of walking for physical and mental health. This is the second year running the initiative, which has been well received by all, with over 9.5 million steps walked collectively and £500 raised between local charities, Julian Trust Night Shelter and Aberdeen Cyrenians.

Litter Picking Initiative.

Portishead Turn the Tide Initiative: Help Protect Our Local Coastline and Wildlife

Viper is supporting a not-for-profit organisation, ‘Turn the Tide Portishead’, which works to reduce the amount of litter reaching surrounding coastlines. Our donation to the organisation in 2021 helped fund new solar-powered compactor bins for Portishead Marina, which have the capacity to hold more waste and trap the rubbish, therefore reducing the need for litter picking and pollution.

We also pledge our support in helping to protect a designated area close to Viper’s Portishead office and will help to litter pick around this route. Viper also provides branded tabards, litter pickers, and bags and requires staff to walk in pairs or more, one to collect recyclable items and the other to collect non-recyclable rubbish. Most importantly, all litter-picking progress and the number of bags collected are recorded.

Young Enterprise Charitable Scheme.

Education is at the heart of Viper’s core values, and as a result, we have supported many local schools, colleges and universities through work experience, internships, mentoring and sponsorships.

We have sponsored the Young Enterprise charitable scheme annually for the past four years, 3 of which we also provided a business mentor and/or business judges. In 2018 and 2019, we financially sponsored and provided trainers and facilities for a local initiative called ‘Coding Bug’, which introduces software coding to school children (8 to 12 years old).

Structured work experience is given to at least two school students each year, and one or two internships are available for second/third-year undergraduates during summer holidays. We also support, financially and through career mentoring, a local school student via the Arkwright Foundation initiative and sponsor a university undergraduate via the UK Electronic Skills Foundation Initiative.

A select number of students studying STEM subjects at local schools are invited into the offices to see new technology and/or hear from engineers about choices, and training needs for a career in engineering. Our staff members also provide inspirational talks at local schools about the importance of STEM while providing support for career days and interview practice sessions for students.

In 2021 we welcomed Viper’s first engineering apprentices in partnership with Weston College. The students will gain invaluable skills and industry knowledge to shape their professional development.

Viper supported the 2022 Young Enterprise West of England Awards, where we sponsored the Innovation Award, Best Presentation Award and Teamwork Award, which was presented by Director Neil Douglas. The initiative empowers young people to set up and run a student company under the guidance of a business volunteer. During the area final, students showcased their products and skills they had learnt through the programme in front of judges and each other.

MacMillian Cancer Support

September 2022: MacMillian Coffee Morning

Macmillan’s coffee morning is a fundraising event to support people living with cancer. People all over the UK host their Coffee Morning, and donations raised on the day are made to Macmillan.

On Wednesday, 28th September 2022, the Portishead and Aberdeen offices held a MacMillan coffee morning to raise money for cancer support.

The CSR committee baked many delicious sweet treats, the sale of which resulted in a fantastic donation, therefore allowing Viper Innovations to donate to the Macmillian Cancer Support – the UK’s leading cancer care charity.

The Salvation Army.

December 2022: Christmas Present Appeal

Over the years, millions of children have benefited from the salvation army, especially at Christmas time. In December 2022, Salvation Army churches and centres across the UK organised a Christmas Present Appeal, collecting donated presents to help spread the joy of Christmas to families whose children would otherwise not receive a gift.

Viper Innovations supported the Christmas Present Initiative to give Christmas presents to children through the help of The Salvation Army.

With the donations from our staff, Viper Innovations donated new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children aged 0 – 16. The gifts were donated to the Salvation Army in North Somerset and Aberdeen which were wrapped and distributed to those in need.
