PRESS RELEASE: Viper and Proserv Tie-up Celebrates Successful First Year

April 3, 2023

OEM partner collaboration has driven ahead with knowledge sharing, team building and increased subsea orders over past 12 months.

In January 2022, leading global controls technology company Proserv and Viper Innovations, an electrical distribution and asset integrity specialist, signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner collaboration agreement. The arrangement relates to the supply of hardware and services for electrical line insulation integrity monitoring and recovery. It enables both companies to utilise their combined expertise and core strengths to provide enhanced, cost-effective, high-quality solutions to their clients across both brownfield and greenfield subsea projects.

Just over one year later, the companies can reflect on the partnership’s success and look forward to exciting new developments in 2023.

Edward Davies, Managing Director at Viper Innovations, commented,

“The success of this partnership has been the result of both party’s dedication to collaborate effectively, to meet the needs of our collective customers in the Subsea Energy Industry. Combining the strengths and expertise of both businesses means we can expand our offering to a wider audience and help more operators maximise the operational life of their assets.

The first part of the year was dedicated to knowledge sharing, training and building team relations; this has paid off with a notable increase in orders and consistent activity in the last quarter of the year. Recent meetings with Proserv in Houston have identified new activities for increased collaboration, which will build on the early successes.”

Davis Larssen, Chief Executive Officer at Proserv, added,

“At Proserv, we have earned a reputation for providing the most reliable subsea control systems in the industry and engineering solutions that the market truly needs. We must always look to extend and push that forwards. Our relationship with Viper allows us to bring further value to our clients by delivering enhanced functionality and enabling effective visibility, monitoring and intelligence on the integrity of vital electrical cables.

“Our fundamental goal is to assist our customers with improving the reliability, optimising the operational performance and extending the life of critical infrastructure. The industry demands ever more insight across its assets and Viper’s solutions provide additional monitoring support in a key specialism. We very much look forward to more shared projects in 2023.”

The initial agreement in 2022 was followed by a succession of technical sessions, where Viper’s Technical Support Team delivered onsite V-LIM installation presentations and demonstrations for Proserv engineers. These were well received and helped to build knowledge and connections across the businesses, creating a network of Proserv field engineers supporting Viper product installs and service provision across geographies. The sessions not only incorporated a presentation but also explored the multiple features and benefits of the V-LIM system, an accurate and precise sensor which monitors electrical cable integrity.  Additionally, V-LIM is V-LIFE ready – an exclusive feature for subsea applications which can be activated to increase the system insulation resistance (IR) and availability without the need for costly intervention or the risk of introducing new faults.

The companies celebrated a successful joint V-LIFE installation in the North Sea in June 2022. The operator reported seeing the benefits of V-LIFE’s ‘healing’ technology for low IR after a successful installation of Viper’s V-LIM and the activation of V-LIFE technology, which responded quickly to address the low resistance on the channel.

In October 2022, Viper’s Commercial Sales Manager and Norwegian Business Development Consultant visited Proserv’s base in Stavanger, Norway. The two teams are working closely to engage with, and support, more operators in the Norwegian market with cutting-edge subsea controls alongside an offering extended further by the capture of data and information on the IR of electrical circuits and umbilicals.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Viper has continued collaborating with the Proserv team in Houston, with regular visits to the region, including spending time at its facility. Following a productive Subsea Tieback event earlier this month, further connections have been made, opening up new opportunities and potentially more collaboration ahead in 2023.
