Technology SME Supports Operators in the Gulf of Mexico

March 14, 2023

Viper’s Commercial Sales Manager Thomas McCudden attended the Subsea Tieback forum and exhibition in Galveston, Texas, which took place from 28th February – 2nd March.

The 3-day event addressed challenges and solutions associated with global deepwater subsea operations. Dialog among strategic decision-makers was facilitated through focused presentations, Q&A sessions and networking. Key themes of the event included the projected increased use of tieback technology and the challenges of deep water operations.

Thomas will also be attending the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) taking place in Houston from the 1st – 4th May. If you’re interested in arranging a meeting during this period, get in touch with Thomas on thomas.mccudden@viperinnovations.com.

Customers in the Gulf of Mexico are already seeing the benefits of Viper’s V-LIFE insulation resistance (IR) recovery technology. After experiencing low IR, an Operator with assets in the Gulf of Mexico was keen to activate V-LIFE to recover the electrical integrity of their subsea power circuits to avoid loss of power and potential loss of production. V-LIFE is the only preventative and active ‘healing’ solution for low insulation resistance caused by water ingress. It is the only solution other than costly subsea repair or total umbilical replacement, and has been supporting global operators for over a decade. More operators in the Gulf of Mexico are interested in talking to us about V-LIFE technology and how it can assist their subsea operations and increase the production lifecycle of their assets.

The company has ambitious plans for further growth all built on the foundations of its people, culture, innovation and appetite to disrupt. In 2022, Viper signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Proserv and have made regular visits to the team in Houston, including spending time at their facility.

Viper has enjoyed significant, consistent growth and diversification of its technology into new sectors and applications, with over 50% of their sales in the first half of FY23 being to export markets. As part of their global growth strategy, the company has increased its support, local presence and focus in key markets including the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, Norway, China, Malaysia and Australia. This growth has also been reflected in the expansion of Viper’s core engineering team who are dedicated to delivering the significant R&D activity required to support future products and markets.

Thomas commented: It was great to meet and speak with so many Gulf of Mexico Operators at the Subsea Tieback event recently. Confidence in the Gulf of Mexico Oil & Gas sector is high with many subsea operations both underway & scheduled.
